NHS Foundation Trust Operating Theatre Refits
Site
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is a busy Cheshire Hospital founded in 1905. They are a specialist `hub` centre for emergency and high-risk general surgery, one of only four in Greater Manchester and covering the South-East sector of the region.
Project Scope:
Operation theatres 8,9,10,11 required extensive modernisation as the existing equipment was outdated. The design brief was to refit the theatres with the latest LED luminaires, complete with green lighting options. The theatre control panels were dated and required replacing with modern Digital Theatre Panels.
Existing operating lights were to be replaced with new ‘ state of the art’ lighting, featuring preset lighting controls that allow staff members to choose the exact light intensity and specific lighting positions required.
Contract Arrangements:
Warden Construction awarded us the contract based on our skill set, existing relationship and knowledge of this NHS Trust, and excellent track record with Warden.
All of our operatives were in possession of CSCS cards. All RAMS were in place and signed off before work commenced.
Project Challenges:
Our team completed tasks within a working warehouse area, including height-access work. In addition, forklift trucks were in operation, so coordination and safety were paramount. The client brief was fulfilled by a very detailed design by ECS consultants.
During our installation, it was necessary to reposition the air conditioning condenser. It also became apparent that extra fire dampers were needed due to the ventilation ductwork passing through firewalls.

The results & client feedback:
We completed on budget with all aspects operating smoothly and efficiently. The Trust and Wardens were highly pleased with the result.
I want to say that working on the theatres with the Meel Group teams has been a very good experience. The work has been done to a very high standard, and we look forwards to the planned further theatre refits.
As the main contractor, we would like to do more work of this scale with the Meel Group, so please pass on my thanks to your teams.Adam Clack
