A new energy-efficient plant room and heating refurbishment.

Neville Road Junior School Bramhall, Stockport, is a thriving junior school for children aged 7-11 and has up to 360 pupils. The building dates from the 1950s, with further building additions in the 1970s, 1990s and early 2000s.

Project Scope:

Nevill Road Junior  School had the problem of an existing ageing system which needed to be more efficient and affordable to run. The works were designed to both reduce the heating and hot water costs for the building as well as give the school the security of a new reliable system with high-quality components.

The contract was won by Competitive Tender.

Scope of works:

  • Domestic pipework to existing appliances.
  • Heating pipework.
  • Removal and replacement of all radiators.

  • New plant room, including three boilers & BMS.
  • Unvented cylinder complete with solar circuit.
  • Cold water storage tank with booster set.

Solar Energy:

On top of the plant room, 3x solar collectors fed the system’s solar circuit to benefit from renewable energy contributing towards the temperature in the hot water cylinder.

Project Challenges:

The water main which feeds the school entered the building in several locations and had no stop tap; we solved the issue by installing a new water main from the boundary to the building, with a single stop tap that controlled the whole school.

Health & Safety:

At the Meel Group, we take health and safety very seriously. All RAMs were in place, and we had no incidents during the project.

Project feedback:

Meel Group completed on both schedule and budget. The client was delighted with the results. The Junior School’s staff and pupils now benefit from a reliable, efficient heating and hot water system.
