Installation of a comprehensive nurse call system within Radiology B, at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Project Background:
Radiology Block B had an unreliable, non-HTM-compliant system that had reached the end of its life. It required total replacement with a modern state-of-the-art Nurse Call system. Meel Group Projects were enlisted as the principal contractor to carry out the work involved under the SBS framework.
Overview:
The project involved removing the old system and installing a new and comprehensive nurse call infrastructure across the entire department, including patient call points, staff assistance alarms, emergency WC alarms, over-door indicators, central display panels, cabling infrastructure, and UPS-backed equipment.
System Outline:
The system consists of both patient and staff assistance alarms.
Patient calls generate visual and audible alerts. Staff assistance calls typically operate at a higher priority level. Emergency WC alarms utilise accessible pull-cord units. Over-door lights provide a visual indication of alarm locations. Calls are displayed at nurse station panels and repeater displays where installed.
Our installation of the nurse call systems is hard-wired for maximum reliability. And the system is reset locally at the originating call point after assistance has been provided.

UPS Backup
The system design for Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) compliance. In the event of a power outage to the system, the Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) typically supports critical nurse call infrastructure for 30 minutes.
