Mechanical and Electrical installation as PRU relocates:
Broadwalk is a Key Stage 3 Pupil Referral Unit with capacity for 40 pupils. All pupils have been permanently excluded from mainstream school or are at risk of such.
The scheme involved the PRU relocating to the former Clifton Green Youth Centre (M27 8QL). The relocation will be accompanied by a comprehensive refurbishment of the existing facility with an additional new two-story modular extension.
Robertsons contracted Meel Group projects for the M&E provision of this project.
Contract Arrangements
Meel Group has worked with the client (Robertson Construction North West) on several previous projects and won this tender based on price and reputation.

Mechanical Scope of Works:
Mechanical works associated with the project consisted of the refurbishment of services in the existing building and the complete M&E installation within the new modular building.
Heating and ventilation
- Heat Recovery Units (HRU) and Fan Coil Units (FCU) were installed in the main hall to meet the desired airflow and temperature targets.
- Air Conditioning Units were installed throughout the building to manage the heating and cooling requirements.
- 5x new and efficient radiators were installed in the existing building.
- Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) pipework was installed to each radiator in the existing building.
- Fans were fitted into toilets to supply sufficient airflow to each cubicle.
- Modern and efficient Panel Heaters were installed.
Domestic Services
We surveyed the existing building to confirm the location of current domestic services. Our engineers then implemented alterations to domestic pipework to suit the revised layout and requirements.
Above Ground Drainage
Our teams carried out the installation and alteration of drainage systems to suit the new layouts.
Sanitaryware
Our engineers installed new sanitaryware throughout the existing and new modular building; these consisted of the following:
- Disabled Hygiene room
- Disabled Doc M WC
- Males WC
- Females WC
- Staff WC
