Refurbishing a Health Centre’s energy room with a new and efficient system.
Site:
Waters Meeting Health Centre is part of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, comprising three GP practices, a pharmacy, and a wide range of community health services.
Project Aims:
The works were designed to improve the current plant room’s efficiency and reduce monthly heating costs.
The existing system was also quite old, and this project was aimed at preventing component failure by the installation of a new and reliable heating system.
Project Challenges:
The project was initiated at short notice, and we worked hard to create a schedule meeting the client’s requirements.
Scope of works
Mechanical:
- The existing boilers are to be locally isolated, drained and stripped out.
- To provide a temporary boiler to provide heating and hot water to the building for the duration of the plant room works.
- Two new Remeha boilers to be installed and commissioned, complete with new flue, cascade kit, low-loss header and circulation pumps to replace the existing redundant heating installations.
- Heating pipework to be modified to accommodate the installation of the new boilers and new LPHW circulation pumps to match the duties of the existing units.
- Upgrade the existing BMS.
- The redundant hot water cylinder will be isolated, drained, and stripped out. Due to the size of the unit, the cylinder will need to be cut into sections for removal.
- New pipework within the plant room is to be thermally insulated and clad in stucco aluminium sheeting.
Electrical:
- A new telephone point to be installed and adding three new compartment dado and sockets.
- Supply and install a repeater panel for the fire alarm from the main entrance to the guard station.
- CCTV, remove the old system and replace the power supply before installing the new CCTV system.
- Remove the old monitoring station and install the new one in the Guard Station.
Health & Safety:
At the Meel Group we take health and safety very seriously, all RAMs were in place, and we had no incidents during the project.
Results:
Waters Meeting Health Centre now has a modern, reliable and efficient energy room and heating system.
