Improving security and convenience with internal automated doors.
Site:
Managed by Stockport NHS Trust, Stepping Hill Hospital serves a population of around 350,000 people. The installation was to take place within the Maternity Department on the1st floor.
Project Scope:
Automated doors were required in the 1st-floor corridor of the Maternity block, which leads into the Theatres, improving both security and convenience when transporting patients in beds.
Automated doors are far more convenient than manual doors and are safer, as they can be programmed to open and close very slowly.
They also provide increased security as personnel can only activate the doors after scanning an authorised ID tag.
The contract was won as won on reputation and our position as an NHS SBS Framework supplier.
Scope of works:
- Supply and install 230 volt fused spur electrical supply for door access.
- Supply and install a data point for door access.
- Supply and install door access system.
- Supply and install fire alarm interface for door access
- A certified fire-stopping hole through fire compartment wall.
- Installation of automatic door openers.
Project Challenges:
The project involved working on a ‘live’ door that accessed the theatres from the very busy maternity unit. The corridor had four access/egress points.
We successfully carried out the work in this area by close liaison with the Matron, Ward Managers and Clinical Team.
Project feedback:
Very positive feedback was received from the Trust on the quality of the installation. The installation of the doors successfully improved the flow of patients as well as the security of the area.
