Grade II listed Leigh Town Hall in the Greater Manchester Borough of Wigan was built in 1904. In 2019 it underwent a £1.3m refurbishment to convert it to a modern, state-of-the-art archive and learning space for the people of Wigan.

Contract Arrangements & Scope of works.

As domestic sub-contractors to Carefoot PLC, we stripped out and removed the existing electrics in the Town Hall and installed complete and comprehensive electrical services and systems as per NPS/Wigan Council’s specification.

Our contract was awarded by competitive tender and instructed after interview. We have worked with Carefoot PLC for more than 20 years on many successful schemes in the North West.

Project challenges

We were fully prepared for the challenges that would inevitably arise from working with a grade II listed building. These included complicated installations and wire ways and the need to coordinate closely with many other trades on site.


Midway through the contract, we faced the prospect of working under the restrictions brought about by the national lockdown. As a result, we devised flexible COVID-secure ways of working, enabling us to continue working effectively in what became an ever-changing and highly challenging working environment.

We delivered a successful installation that brought this stunning building back to life. Work was completed in line with the programme brief, while close liaison with designers and architects enabled us to ensure every detail met the client’s expectations. Similarly, by working closely with the lighting designers and other trades on-site, we were able to efficiently co-ordinate project schedules.
